Facilities
The Faculty of Health, Sport and Science is blessed with some of the most exciting new teaching and learning technologies available.
Sophisticated simulation equipment and tools are incorporated into the faculty’s education and training to create a unique learning environment. The faculty boasts first-class facilities catering for a variety of subject areas.
Teaching and Research Laboratories

The recently built state-of-the-art George Knox science laboratories are part of a £12m investment on the Glyntaff Campus. All our students benefit from these purpose-built laboratories giving them the necessary practical and employment skills. Based over three floors these comprise of an environmental chamber, a suite of chemistry/analytical instrumentation laboratories and a separate area of Level 2 containment laboratories. These are dedicated to microbiology, molecular biology and DNA sequencing, as well as ultra-trace analysis. The laboratories also support the Sustainable Environment Research Centre.
You can also check out a 360 tour to our Geology laboratory.
The Welsh Institute of Chiropractic
The Welsh Institute of Chiropractic offers clinical chiropractic healthcare services to university staff, students and the wider community, provided by student clinicians completing their General Chiropractic Council training. This ensures that the training given meets the high standards demanded under government legislation.
In addition to Chiropractic treatment, the WIOC also offers its patients supervised rehabilitation exercise programmes and imaging facilities.
Glamorgan Clinical Simulation Centre
Housed in an attractive converted 19th Century tramshed just 20 minutes outside Cardiff, the Glamorgan Clinical Simulation Centre has an array of contemporary technologies ensuring students are trained in real-world health-and-science scenarios.
Equipment ranges from use of simple anatomical models to a full-scale hospital environment, and is adaptable enough that the centre recently provided clinical training for Territorial Army field hospital personnel.
Family Institute
The Family Institute was established in 1969 and joined the university in 2001. It is a recognised centre of excellence for the training of psychotherapists and counsellors and is now an integral part of the faculty.
The Institute provides a therapy service for families, couples, children and individual adults. The Institute is a training member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy.
Forensic Science Suite
A special multi-room scenes-of-crime “house” provides the forensic investigators of tomorrow with an ideal mock-up in which to systematically peruse a realistic crime scene, hands-on.
Students also receive an extensive programme of tuition in a Forensic Search Laboratory and in numerous chemical and biological science laboratories in order that they graduate from Glamorgan with an extensive, real-world skills base.

Police Sciences

The Police Sciences Division uses fully equipped police interview rooms, utilising exactly the same equipment as UK police forces. Students are able to view themselves in action in real time through a sophisticated multi-camera CCTV system.
Students also have access to a complete simulated village, with pub, shop, roads and houses. For further details about the faciltiies available to students visit the Police Sciences Facilities web page.
